I’m Having a Frustrating Day
I hope yours is going better.
I should have replaced my computer a few months ago.
It was freezing, and took a looooong time to start up (I had it set to shut-down & start-up automagically every morning, but it stopped starting up without me).
I was irritated but couldn’t quite bring myself to part with it.
It worked just well enough to get through my day until one day it didn’t.
I had a spanking new laptop I bought once I started travelling again for work in the spring. I knew the magic of solid state drives. I realized my old pig was wreaking havoc on my efficiency, but I couldn’t quite bring myself to part with it.
It worked just well enough to get through my day until one day it didn’t.
So, do you think that the day it gave up the ghost happened to be one where I had nothing on the go?
::Rhetorical question::
This may be the shortest blog I ever peck out, because I set up my new system today. It’s lightning fast, but I needed to sign into many cloud apps and download my 1Password (which I needed to sign into my cloud apps..), GDrive File Stream, Streamdeck, and Slack. I had backed up my system but these key desktop apps that are an integral part of my day didn’t come over on the system migration.
I’ll tell you what did come over - and they are insanely effective in getting me back to work - my Chrome Identities. Setting these up and synching them is the single biggest win in running a cloud-based business.
Soooo… any of you relating to my story? I’m guessing yes.
All of us are hanging onto something in our business for too long. Workflows & processes, cloud & desktop apps & programs, hardware. The list could go on.
Do what I didn’t do.
If something is lagging, and it could possibly implode at a very inconvenient time, make the hard choice to fix it now.

This week it’s all about Canada going back to a time before cell data and the internet.
I tweeted about the Rogers debacle where a single provider of Canadian cell and internet services paralyzed not just communications, but 911 calls, banking operations & payment processing, almost all gov’t services, and sites such as blood donor clinics.
What a mess. And it certainly leads to wonder where was the redunancy?
Holy Christmas, if I can create redundancy in the small world of what I do, you would think that one of the biggest companies in Canada could figure it out.

::Shameless Call To Action::
Are your processes and systems bogging you down?
I sell bookkeeping templates, standard operating process handbooks and client guides.
And Chrome cloud accounting bookmarks.
I have free resources as well!
PS. If you are wondering why I took the time to blog, when I have other balls in the air, I find it cathartic, and it doesn’t take long because I have crafted a template for them.
